Panel Recommends Enactment of Anti-SLAPP Law in Ontario, Canada

Recently the Ontario Attorney General’s Anti-SLAPP Advisory Panel recommended that Ontario (Canada) adopt anti-SLAPP legislation. The panel urged the province to enact legislation that protects all communications on matters of public interest, including communications made outside of the context of petitioning a public body. In addition, the panel recommended that a defendant who prevails on a motion to dismiss a SLAPP should be allowed to recover fees and costs.
