The SPEECH Act Passes Congress
The Public Participation Project applauds Congress for enacting The SPEECH Act on July 27, 2010. This legislation is an important step to support First Amendment rights by protecting against libel tourism. The SPEECH Act ensures that American Courts cannot be used to enforce foreign libel judgments which undermine Americans’ First Amendment rights. Congress must now address the larger evil of domestic libel lawsuits by enacting HR 4364, the Citizen Participation Act.
